Alcohol and your health

You are probably aware of the immediate intoxicating effects of alcohol, such as:

  • reduced inhibitions

  • impaired judgement

  • slurred speech

  • memory loss

  • nausea/vomiting.

However, there are also longer-term health consequences of excessive drinking which, despite their serious and potentially deadly nature, may remain undetected.

Studies show that alcohol is linked to more than 60 disease conditions, including liver disease, cancer, osteoporosis, stomach ulcers, raised blood pressure, stroke and dementia.
